God is Israel's Shield, not the United States

In a recent speech to U.S. troops, U.S. President George W. Bush stated that it is the United States who is protecting Israel though its alleged war on terrorism. He stated that, were it not for the U.S., "the terrorists would be able to advance their stated agenda: ... to destroy Israel...."

Now, here is a man, who has stated over and over and over that he reads the Bible but has proven over and over and over that he does not know the first thing about the Scriptures. God states very clearing that He will be the one who defends Israel: "But you will not go out in haste, nor will you go as fugitives; for the Lord will go before you, and the God of Israel will be your rear guard" (Isaiah 52:12) and "for the Lord your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you" (Deuteronomy 20:4). In addition, see also Zechariah 9.15-16;12.8.

Furthermore, God states that Israel will always exist:

Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar; the Lord of hosts is His name: 'If this fixed order departs from before Me,' declares the Lord, 'then the offspring of Israel also will cease from being a nation before Me forever.' Thus says the Lord, 'If the heavens above can be measured and the foundations of the earth searched out below, then I will also cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done,' declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 31:35-37)

Note that there is no requirement for Israel here. God states that, as long as the sun, the moon, and the stars keep their place, and so long as the heavens and the earth are not able to be measured, then the nation of Israel will continue to exist. It's good to know that there are things that we can reply on, no matter how bad the going gets.
